Role-Playing Game Research - Where We Are Now, Goals, & What We Need to Get There
This is an informal summary of our goals and needs
THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS THAT WAS INTERRUPTED BY OUR NEEDING TO TAKE A WEEK-LONG BREAK AFTER ALL THE WORK WE DID FOR GENCON AND WORLDCON. WILL RESUME FILLING THIS OUT WHEN WE GET BACK FROM OUR BREAK, BEGINNING AUGUST 10TH.
We are back from our break recuperating from the intense months leading up to and helping with hosting and providing events for ZoeCon, WorldCon Hugo Awards, & GenCon Online.
RPG Research exists to help improve the quality of life for everyone across the world, raising the overall human condition. We do so through research, evidence-based practice, on-site community programs, and online programs.
We have found through our research programs that cooperative music and role-playing game programs provide incredibly powerful modalities to achieve these goals.
Currently we have more than 100 volunteers across 5 continents.
We have been raising around just $3,000 USD per year in donations. $900 in 2017, $2,700 in 2018, & $3,200 in 2019, and possibly $6,000 ($5,000 of which thanks to The Fantasy Network donation earlier this year) by the end of 2020 (average = $3,200/yr over 4 years).
We need to get to the point where we are no longer running non-client operations in our founder's home basement/driveway/lawn/trailers, and into our own warehouse facilities (minimum $1,200-$2,000+/month). All client operations are run elsewhere, we never bring clients to the hosue.
We desperately need administrative volunteers. We have well over 100 volunteers but they are mostly running the RPG programs, or helping with the research archives and research. We have almost no administrative staff. All of our client-based programs that aren't online are at other locations, we _never_ bring clients to the founders home. But we sometimes have a dozen volunteers in his basement undergoing training or helping people online. We really need to move all this somewhere else, the neighbors are quite upset with the bus, trailers, and people coming and going.
We desperately need ASAP:
- Warehouse space for the RPG Bus & RPG Trailers, + daily training & online operations (12' high door, minimum 2,000 square feet)
- Volunteer Coordinator person
- Community Outreach & Fundraising person
- Marketing & Social Media person
- Administrative Assistant
- CPA
- Lawyer
- Grant writer(s)

Free Weekly Online Drop In & RPG Sessions
Status
See the latest Drop In sessions available on our Events page: https://www.rpgresearch.com/events
We need to update our events section after the WorldCon, GenCon, and Spark Central hosting and events we ran July 27th through August 2nd.
We are currently recuperating, but will be back to our regular schedule August 10th, and will begin updating the Events Page with all of the events coming.
Generally we offer programs every week, depending on our volunteer availability.
Projections
We expect to resume having one or more free Drop In and RPG sessions starting back up after August 15th onward.
Free RPG Tour Drop In & RPG In-Person Sessions
We drive around North America, pulling over at street corners, parks, libraries, schools, churches, rest areas, and other locations to raise awareness about role-playing games, accessibility, and providing free drop-in RPG sessions open to the public.
People see our decorative RPG Bus and RPG Trailer and often pull up asking "What is a role-playing game", and often saying "I have always been curious but didn't know how to get started", to which we answer their questions and/or let them try out a game session right there on the spot, ranging across genres from fantasy, to science fiction, to modern day procedurals and action adventures, or social/political RPGs.
Status
These are currently on hold until further notice. Please see our Online Drop-In & RPG Sessions until further notice.
